Let’s talk about this. Luggage holds our stuff. Motorcycle luggage has to hold stuff and attach to your motorcycle securely no matter where you ride. It has to withstand the elements. And it has to be made of the very best quality materials to last. Eric believes that all Wolfman Luggage should be versatile. His motto is modular storage means endless possibilities. His philosophy—his ethos—is fit, function, versatility, durability.
Wolfman is all about FIT. Eric does not like generic fit. Better fit equals better function. Your luggage must be a tight fit to your bike. Proper fitting soft luggage allows the rider a better and safer ride. No flop.
FUNCTION has to work with each rider. Eric hates a lot of extra stuff, especially below the bottom of the bags since there are exhaust pipes and your chain to be careful of. Installation mistakes can cause safety issues so they must be considered in the design. Wolfman Luggage functions better than our competitors because we painstakingly consider these potential issues. We call it “Design Mode” while Eric is working and reworking any potential issues or user errors. He is a master at angles, strap compression and the mechanics of soft luggage. Here is an example if you use hard pannier luggage. We hear it all the time. “I had space” so packed extra stuff. You have to fill the space full or if only half full, the contents inside the hard bags gets totally beat up with the extra space bouncing along the off-road trails. The added weight of the extra stuff you packed to fill the space makes your bike heavier. The rider gets more tired due to the extra weight and when you add in some rocks, sand, speed and rough cornering you have more to move around while standing up on those pegs. In fact, often you take large luggage OFF to upright a big bike if you dropped it. More is not always better. Eric asks what is necessary to function? Then make THAT load fit YOUR bike properly for the best riding ever!
VERSATILITY. Modular storage with endless possibilities. Add and subtract bags to fit the size of your trip. At Wolfman, we have two styles of luggage in our Threadworks collection. One is traditional saddlebags and the other is our modular base system starting with a strong platform to build your personalized kit.
Our Threadworks traditional saddlebags are our E-12s and Daytrippers. These long running, often copied bags have a sleek, weatherproof zippered entry with a legendary enduro silhouette that can fit multiple bikes. It is very easy to swap these bags between bikes with adjustable seat straps. While time-consuming to create our signature enduro silhouette, they hold their shape (no flop) in the most rugged terrain and the V-compression straps adjust your load to your bike for ultimate safety in trees, tight single track and aggressive riding. The mounting straps are replaceable on ours when our competitors are not. Our upgraded & improved features on a timeless design ensures an excellent riding experience for the most advanced riders. Since our compression bags do not have interior liners, we suggest added compartmentalization with stuff sacks, Ziplock baggies or heavy duty trash liners that more easily fit the contoured shape. The 2” D-rings on the top of these bags hold our accessories.
Unlike holster-style one-size-fits-all bags our competitors make, our Threadworks modular base system starts with a platform and builds up from there! A base + endless choices. YOU have control of how much luggage space you need/want. This rackless system starts with a base like a saddle. Our B-Base is for big adventure bikes. Our E-Base is for smaller enduro/dualsport bikes and our coming soon N-Base is for narrow seats. All of our bases are measured by the width of the passenger seat and for solo riding. Our handcrafted bases are all about simplicity. Less to go wrong. No screws to scratch or loose out there. The webbing is replaceable! Features hook and loop velcro, when compression is released the bags stay on base when removing liners for your tent or hotel room. Vinyl fabric and bound edges for better moldability, as few seams as possible it ships smoothly and economically folded up.
Our endless choices include US-made, Made-to-Order Rolie Bags, Duffels, Tank Bags and Accessories. A mix of many but a typical KIT includes a 1 Base + 2 Rolies + 1 Duffel + Water Bottle Holsters + Rolie Pockets + Zip Pouch + 1 Tank Bag best suited for the size of your bike.
- Our Rolie Bags come in two sizes 7-liter and 15-liter and feature a double fabric bottom so it is super durable underneath the reflective webbing. Added-value 1000 denier Cordura fabric is lightweight but rugged. They feature roll-top closure to keep the muck out, adjust to your load size and they come with 100% waterproof tapered liners (ice cream cone shaped so they pull in and out smoothly) in case you want to keep Rolie Bags on and your stuff off for the night. They come with simple webbing straps or you can upgrade to Voile straps. Voile have been made in Utah, USA for over 40 years and are a serious performance ski strap with elasticity so always compressed. No knock offs. Only an original like us. We offer black or high-vis yellow.
- We have 3 Duffel Bags to choose from. The 22-liter was designed for the E-Base and the larger 40-liter Duffel for the B-Base. And the Enduro Duffel has a unique bulb-shape to stand up even when lightly packed. Both the TW-20 and TW-40 Duffels come with a white 100% waterproof removable liner. Our Duffels offer durable double bottom construction. Our Threadworks Duffels are sturdy travel duffels too…not just for moto. They are an excellent all- round duffel for an airplane weekender or store stuff in your Jeep or side-by-side.
- Our handmade Tank Bags are The Enduro Tank Bag (smaller 6-liter) and the Blackhawk Tank Bag (larger 8 liter). All product descriptions are available including dimensions on our website product pages on the Product Description tab. Our TW-Tank Bags feature interior mesh pocket, electrical cord port, keyclip, foam construction to keep its shape out on the road (No flop) and exterior glove hook and reflective bungie cord for refueling. Eric prefers fabric vs TPU since it is easier to repair by sewing a patch on it instead of adhesive repair kits. All of our webbing is bartacked, tabbed so you don’t loose a buckle.
- 6 Must Have Accessories. Ok soon to be 7 with our coming soon Zip Pouch. (More on that later) That’s why in our Threadworks collection, there are so many accessory pouches and pockets. Staying organized is key. Our water bottle holster hold so many types of water bottles/thermos. Made-to-Order means that each order, your order, is handcrafted by Eric himself. (Eric Hougen is the owner/president/designer/craftsman of Wolfman Luggage). Eric is a master pattern maker who has been sewing, designing and personally rigorously testing off-road motorcycle luggage since 1992. That’s before the Internet. What? Yep, the Internet became available to the public 4/30/1993. Ok then!
Eric is also an avid adventure rider. He likes to travel as efficient as possible without carrying extra weight. He has owned many makes of motorcycles. His first one was a 1977 Honda Z-50. He has ridden many off-road miles on enduro/dualsport/adventure BMW, Yamaha, Suzuki, Truimph, Husqvarna, KTM and Honda with some of his all time favorites being the Yamaha Tenere 1200, Suzuki DR650, BMW R80GS, Honda NX650.
Both Eric’s old school sewn-goods production and his excellent riding skills make him extremely trustworthy. He has been in the ADV motorcycle market for a looooong time with 33 years of hard-earned, innovative designs that continue to be copied worldwide.
