Riding in Moab, UT is on every ADV motorcyclists’ bucket list! Moab has the best routes including intermediate trails, scenic rides on moderate Jeep routes with your buddies and hardcore enduro/dual sport trails with stunning views that usually include overnight camping under the stars.
There’s the world-famous Poison Spider, Hell’s Revenge, Fins’n’Things, Slickrock Trail, Chicken Corners and the White Rim (one of Eric's favorite) among others. Moab is home to three National Scenic Byways, two National Parks and the new Utahraptor State Park where Dalton Wells and Willow Springs Road are just beyond the new state park entrance opening Spring of 2025.
Moab’s Slickrock Trail is arguably one of the most famous mountain biking trails in the world with thousand of riders flocking each year to tis steep and relatively smooth, rounded rollercoaster of sandstone fins and amazing views. And yet, despite its legendary status, or because of it, many folks may not know that long before it was discovered by mountain bikers, “Slickrock” had already been busy “putting Moab on the map” in a number of others sports. The trail was originally created for motorcycles. Specifically the then new breed of ultra lightweight Honda 90 trial bikes. First mention of Slickrock in Moab’s local newspaper, the Moab Times-Independent, is March 27, 1969 by Dick Wilson. “The Slickrock trail has been laid out on knobs of bald Navajo sandstone whose undulating slopes and rounded surfaces provide a great deal of sport to riders of light (Honda) bikes.”
Moab is also one of the International Dark Sky designations in the US. DarkSky International is a nonprofit that works with cities and national parks to fight light pollution and preserve pristine views of the stars. Nearby Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are also Dark Sky Parks. You can see the Milky Way and a true star-filled sky with an estimated 2,500 stars that are visible with good conditions. It takes 20-30 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the dark so that motorcycle camping trip is a perfect way to see them!
Moab has some great places to eat: some of our classic favorites are Moab Diner, Milt’s, Doughbird for donuts, Pasta Jay’s, Sultan Mediterranean Grill, Singha Thai, Quesadilla Mobilla food truck and the new Cactus Jacks for eggs benedict. YUM!
And Moab has some great coffee shops (Little Mas Cafe on the way to Slickrock), Moonflower Coop is a fantastic small grocery to stock up on fresh supplies for your desert trip, retail shops like Gearheads by City Market, Moab Gear Trader by Walker’s Drug, Moab Made and Tumbleweed for locally-made artisan gifts and Back of Beyond book Store to name a few. YAY!
